Sight Word Games (or High Frequency, or Dolch Words- whatever you or your district calls ‘em).

Here’s some stuff I tried for K and 1st. I was a little disappointed- especially for kindergarten. I just KNEW this’d be great for sight words- I was… wrong. I think that the words that occur the most in reading& writing, are left out. I THINK that it’s because you can’t sound ‘em out. I also noticed that it was mostly 3 letter words and less. Any word that has  Evidently, the ‘audio’ part only sounds out ‘phonetic-sounds’, so a LOT of the sight words were out for Kindergarten. I still think it’s good practice.
One thing I like, is that some of the bigger words, are not pronounced like we say ‘em- it’s mostly done phonetically, so it may help with spelling- AND SOUNDING OUT- I just think this is neat- and different.
I know with both my boys, I use mnemonic devices (like thought is ‘thou’ /g/ /h/-/t/ we say it and it almost sounds like a sneeze at the end). I make songs out of words. I remember when Seth had Treasures in 1st, he had provide and protect- we sang this little cadence (army song) and marched around the house:

P-R-O-V-I-D-E ,  P-R-O-T-E-C-T

Provide.

Protect

(clap, clap)

Provide, protect
Provide…

PROTECT.
