Here’s a few games I did on smart.fm to practice vocabulary. Some games can be played on the iPhone.

*Note- users DO NOT have to sign up for an account to play. However, in order to see improvements & keep track of the knowledge of the things that are being tested/reviewed- an account is needed.

The first and MAIN game is iKnow- it creates a learning space, tailored to the user. You’ll see a preview of what you’re studying, and then be quizzed on it- multiple choice and/or dictation (you can change settings @the top of the beginning page).

Then there’s Dictation – sentences/definitions are spoken and the user types in the missing words- gradually moves to typing the whole sentence. When mistakes are made, the user is notified. Dictation is also timed and graded on speed and accuracy.

Finally there’s Brainspeed. Arcade-type game for learning fast. Choose speeds from practice, slow, normal and fast. When answers are right- the pace speeds up! After the game is over, a chart shows the best or weakest items and the reaction times and a graph shows all of this compared to other users!

All this can be done without signup. HOWEVER- sign up and keep track of scores- and only study what is necessary.

If you have an account, you’ll see a Drill Application, that’s in BETA, but I think it’s the same as Study.

To STUDY an item (all items will be studied). The Drill app quickly adapts to you, so you learn more efficiently.The vocabulary word OR the definition will be displayed- and the word/definition will be spoken (IF there’s a file for the audio- MOST words DO have the audio). You will have 2 choices- Teach Me or Quiz Me. Choose Teach Me and word/definition & part of speech will be displayed. There are 3 options: Study Items, Sentence 1, Spelling Practice. When you’re ready to study/practice the next word, click next.
Choose Quiz Me and you’ll immediately be taken to a screen where you’ll have to choose the correct answer. Click Next to go to the next item.

In iKNOW- the 1st page, goto settings to see what different options can be changed.

Each time a word is displayed, at the bottom, there are 3 options: Study Items, Sentence 1, Spelling Practice. When you’re ready to study/practice the next word, click next.
After studying so many words, it’ll change. A word will pop up & you’ll be asked if you know this word. If you click yes, you’ll have to pick out the definition from a list. Or, the definition may be displayed & you pick out the word. OR, the sentence may be displayed, and you pick out the appropriate word. Or the definition may be displayed, and you have to pick the right sentence. Or the correct word may have to be typed in.
If you get a wrong answer- the program will display the correct one & read it aloud at the same time.
The possibilities of this program are amazing- FOR FREE!

Dictation starts out with only a few words of the sentence that is paired with the vocabulary word & eventually works up to the full sentence. Great practice for typing!

BrainSpeed- THINK FAST! Either the word or the definition will be displayed. Choose the correct answer. When the game is over, percentages will be given on accuracy, speed as well as your best & worst items.
